Convex bits are best suited for hard and abrasive formations. The reason is that this design uses two different gauge row angles leading to the center of the bit, which protrudes and is the first part of the bit that hits the rock. The second gauge row Angle helps to mitigate the impact on the external gauge and prevent excessive wear. If you are having problems with steel washing on the gauge, then this is a good design. The CV rod face design is best suited to medium and hard formations with average straightness but excellent penetration. This bit may also need to be customized.

The latest face design is the Convex-Concave, which combines the best of both worlds, taking advantage of the advantages of the convex and concave faces. A disc with a deeper center of the bit (also called CV-CC) provides better hole straightness than a convex surface alone. The design also uses three distinct track protection and face angles. CV-CC performs well in medium and hard formations with improved hole straightness and excellent penetration.

The deep disk in the Center of the Drop Center provides good hole straightness, and the bit performs well in inclined or fractured formations with an average drilling rate.
