5. What is top hammer?
In top hammer drilling, the activity is concentrated at the top of the drill string, above the hole, as a hammer transmits cyclical shock waves to the drill bit by applying a percussive force on the drill rods or tubes (With DTH drills, the hammer is placed down-the-hole at the bit)
6. How does DTH drilling work?
A down-the-hole drill, usually called DTH by most professionals, is basically a jackhammer screwed on the bottom of a drill string. The fast hammer action breaks hard rock into small cuttings and dust that are evacuated by a fluid (air, water or drilling mud).
